The City Palace is the royal heart of Jaipur — a walled complex of courtyards, gardens and palaces begun by Sawai Jai Singh II in the 1720s and still partly home to the former royal family. Inside are the Mubarak Mahal, the seven-storey Chandra Mahal, an armoury and textile museum, and the famous painted gateways. It is about an 8-minute walk from Badi Chaupar station through the old city.
